JRNL: DILEMATA International Journal of Applied Ethics #5

DILEMATA 5(2011) [ISSN 1989-7022], International Journal of Applied Ethics

Available in open access at http://www.dilemata.net/revista/index.php/dilemata/issue/view/5/showToc .

DILEMATA, International Journal of Applied Ethics, reaches its fifth issue with a special section on “Philosophy and the Challenge of Sport”, coedited by José Luis Pérez Triviño and Francisco Javier López Frías. Two papers introduce the main ethical, esthetical and metaphysical issues raised by sport, such as violence, doping, commodification, gender relationships, education, the relationship between values and practices, or the link between sport and nationalism. The section includes two other papers, one by César Torres, President of the International Association for Philosophy of Sport, and other one by Claudio Tamburrini arguing for the prohibition of doping.

This issue also includes several reviews, a paper about the political and judicial meaning of republicanism, and three others dealing with different themes in bioethics: gender issues in clinical research in Costa Rica; the possibilities and challenges brought to institutional bioethics by new information technologies; and the debate over transhumanism, with its promise of achieving perennially young, healthy bodies, which brings us again to the philosophy surrounding sport and the dream of bionic athletes.

We hope that DILEMATA remains attracting your interest, and encourage you to take part in this project, either by sending your proposals for consideration, or by replying to the debates already opened in this or previous issues. May DILEMATA be your journal, too!
